Southwest Movers
Many elements can affect your move, be it timeframe changes, weather patterns, or the moving truck coming across trouble. The thing is, we continually associate moving related issues with outside influence, and often forget that there are just as many issues that can be generated internally that can cause your move to be ten times more nerve-wracking than it has to be. Parents know this all too well, as moving with a child is no easy thing, and can bring on other problems that non-parents do not have to go through. We at Southwest Movers understand how hard it can be to move with children, so we are here to give you some advice on how to make for a smoother move.

Helping Them Coup

Moving is a significant event in a child’s life, and can either positively or negatively affect their future. That said, there are some things you want to be looking out for when it comes to your kid’s behavior during the lead up to, and the move itself.

Time Frame

Make sure your child is aware of the timeframe you are looking at for completion of the move itself. This means, telling them with enough time in advance so they can adjust to the idea of living in a new home.

Inform them

Make sure that you answer any questions your child has regarding the move. Tell them where and why you are moving, when your last day in your home will be, talk to them about their new school and what there is to do where you are going. Remember, kids are incredibly curious, and trust in you to keep them informed.

Keep to a Schedule

You want to make sure they are aware and are adhering to any schedule you have in place for the move.  Having them aware of a plan will help keep them focused on completing their tasks along with you.

Let them Help

Having your child involved with the move will help instill them with a sense of control over what is happening in their life. This will increase their positivity for the move.

After the Move

Once the move is complete, there will be a new set of issues that your child will have to face. Remember, your child will need your help and support as much as possible during this time.

Time to Adjust, Again

The next round of adjusting is here, where before it was getting them used to the idea of moving, now it is time for them to get used to their new home and everything that comes with it. Adjusting to this will most likely include:

Keep to Their Schedule- Keep them to their old schedule, meaning chores, schoolwork, meal and bedtimes.

Socializing– Encourage them to seek out avenues that will allow them to socialize with kids their age, or interests they had where you used to live.

School Time– Just like before their first day of school, go with them to get a good sense of the school they will be attending.

These activities will help impress upon them the sense that this is their new home and help alleviate any doubts they may have about the move itself.

All in all, one of the most important things to remember during this is to stay positive. Children are very perceptive to the moods of their parents and will, in turn, allow it to affect their feelings of what is going on.

Southwest Movers

At Southwest Movers we love helping people move. Also, if you are younger and not attached to an area, we highly recommend moving somewhere crazy and getting to know people somewhere new. But if you are looking at staying close to family or jobs, it doesn’t hurt to find smaller communities and increasing your commute. IF you have any questions at all, give us a call!
