Organizing a Plan

When it comes to moving, many things need to be done for it to be completed successfully. This includes the obvious, like finishing the relocation of your items and selling your past location, but there is one thing that many of us forget to complete during the moving process, the change of address. We tend to forget about it, are unsure how to do it, or do not consider it all that of a big deal. Well, we are here to help you accomplish this process by reminding you who needs changing and how to do so.

Who Needs Changing?

The Post Office

This one is pretty obvious, but many people forget that they will need to contact the post office to make sure their address is updated and to have your mail forwarded to this new location. You can go online to update your address, but be sure to do it at least a week in advance, as this will make sure that there is no gap when your mail forwarding occurs.

Tax Agencies

Now, no one likes to think about the IRS too much, but it is essential that they have your correct address in their system. The IRS provides a simple online form where you can notify them of your change in address.

Social Security

If you are a recipient, you can fill out their change of address application online or call them at (800) 772-1213.

Utilities

As there are many utilities that we pay for to live our life, there will be multiple companies to contact about your move. They should be able to transfer your account to your new location. These utilities include:

–    Gas and electric

–    Phone, cable, and internet

–    Water

–    Etc.

Other Needs

This is another broad category, as there are many things that you may have to change the address to, but they slip your mind. This involves transferring your address for:

–    Insurance (Both Personal and Home Owners/Rental)

–    Loan Providers

–    Credit Card

–    Bank

Southwest Movers

At Southwest Movers we love helping people move. Also, if you are younger and not attached to an area, we highly recommend moving somewhere crazy and getting to know people somewhere new. But if you are looking at staying close to family or jobs, it doesn’t hurt to find smaller communities and increasing your commute. IF you have any questions at all, give us a call!
