Everyone needs to be prepared and for their big day especially if it is a winter move. At SouthWest Movers, we specialize in long distance moves in the winter. If you think you are ready to take that adventure with us, we’ve prepared a handy list of moving tips for you below.
Top 5 Tips for your Winter Move!
- Bundle Up – If you’re moving in the winter, be prepared to be cold. We always advise at the very minimum, jeans, long sleeve shirt, sweater or hoodie (watch those tassels), mitts, and your best boots. We cannot stress the boots or the hoodie enough!
- Prepare your Vehicles – Your vehicles are going to be moving under strain in the snow. You need to watch for ice slicks and snowy patches. If you don’t have winter tires, it is a worthy investment, especially for your safety.
- Clear the Snow – You are about to move from one driveway to another driveway. If you have the opportunity to split up into teams, do it. You need to have a clear driveway twice. Clear the departing and arriving driveway, salt the pavement, clear the sidewalks and as much of the area as you can. The less snow in your path, the less snow that will be in your new home.
- Pace Yourself – It may be cold, you may be able to push yourself, but Adrenaline is a crazy thing in the winter. Make sure to plan when you have down time. Give yourself a moment to catch your breath and drink some water; you’d be surprised how often people end up being dehydrated when water surrounds them!
- Bring Hot Stuff! – While water is the currency of every summer move, you can’t only give people water in the winter. If you can prepare soup, hot chocolate, tea, or stew, you will significantly improve the conditions of your move and make everyone involved very happy.
