When it comes to moving to a new location, there are just a plethora of houses you can choose from. There is always someone putting their place on the market ready to rent or sell. That being said, sometimes, we do not want to move to a “new house,” we want to live in a brand-new house, in that a home newly constructed for us. There is a sense of true newness and in some ways a rebirth of one’s self when it comes to moving to a location built from the ground us specifically for us. But with this hopeful idea of a future in a new home, some potential downsides should be examined before you commit to such a drastic change.

The Pros

Customized for You

As this newly constructed location was made for you and yours, it is made for you. You will not have to settle for a bedroom without a connecting bathroom, a living room that us to small, a single story as opposed to your desired house with several floors, etc.; you will be able actually to inhabit your dream house.

Efficient on Energy

With it being newly constructed, this means it will be able to take advantage of many of the new options to make your house more energy efficient, such as solar panels, and energy efficient windows. This coincides with the fresh materials used in the house’s construction means that it will be able to keep its internal temperature more efficiently and reliably leveled. This will help prevent your A/C from having to battle to keep you comfortable in your house, and thereby not having to expend more energy.

Less Maintenance for Awhile

Because the material is fresh, and the construction is new, you will not have to worry about anything being wrong after you first move in. You can rest easy knowing the maintenance needed on the house will not have to take effect for a few years.

Cons

Less Room for Negotiating

Because it is a new location, built at the current cost of material and labor, you will not be able to haggle for a deal as quickly as you would if you were moving into an older house.

Not Every Builder is the Best

As is the case whenever the human element is involved, not everyone is the same. What this means is that you may have the best builder in town, or you could be trusting the company building your house to do the very best, and they decide to cut corners and expenses. This will then lead to a home that may not be as perfect as you expect. Be sure to check out their previous projects to help make an informed decision on who to entrust to your house’s construction.
