DIYing packing is an excellent choice. It saves money, and you know where everything is placed, making unpacking easier. But if you think you just need boxes and tapes for your move, think again. Having the proper packing and moving supplies on hand can make the task of packing and unpacking smooth like butter, keeping your valuables safe from any external shock.

Moving Supplies

Obtaining the right moving supplies is the first step in ensuring a successful move. Below are some essential moving supplies you will most definitely need while shifting-

Cardboard or Plastic Boxes:

If your move is local, you might go for your suitcases, duffel bags, and other such packaging for your belongings. But if you are moving long-distance, use professional cardboard or plastic boxes designed for moving purposes. They are durable, stackable, and less likely to crumble down. You can get them for free from your nearby grocery store or search on Craigslist. Get them in different sizes, small for heavier items and bigger for lighter things, and medium-sized with dividers for fragile stuff like dishes.

Cushioning:

No matter how clumsy you are, you still won’t just throw everything in a box. Wrapping delicate items in cushioning packaging will save them from damage. Use foam wrap sheets for things like dishes and bubble wraps for larger or oddly shaped breakables. You can also use newspapers and packing papers for some cushioning, but they do not provide a sound buffer. Instead, use them for items that are not exactly fragile.

Packing Tape:

The next important thing you’ll need is packing tape. A lot of it. From building up the boxes to packing them, packing tape is an important supply. Invest in high-quality and durable tape that can hold a box together even in the worst conditions. Remember to buy two to three extra roles, just in case.

Plastic Baggies:

Little plastic sandwich bags are fantastic for storing small items that might otherwise get lost. Use them to efficiently pack all the knick-knacks, like screws from disassembled furniture and other tiny pieces that are easily misplaced.

Labels and Markers:

Use them to label your boxes as you pack to keep everything sorted. Sticker labels are a great option to label rented plastic boxes. Be sure to label the boxes on multiple sides.

Tool Set:

A toolset makes disassembling and assembling your furniture very easy. Ensure the kit includes a hammer, nails, screws, hanging hardware, wrench, screwdriver, and a drill.

Stretch Wrap:

Use a stretch wrap to keep your drawers on the dresser and nightstand closed while moving. You can also use it to protect furniture, especially wood pieces, from scratches and other surface damages.

Utility Knife:

A handy pocket knife or a utility knife is always a helpful thing. It makes opening boxes while unpacking a breeze. If you’ve packed your items tight till the top of the box, just be careful as it’s easy to cut through your belongings.
